FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Do I need a solicitor to go to an employment tribunal?

No. Many people represent themselves. A solicitor can be helpful if your case is complex, but you are not required to have one. Our service helps you understand the process if you choose to act on your own.

2. Is your service really free?

Yes. Everything we do is completely free. We are volunteers and we do not charge for any information or support.

3. Are you solicitors or a law firm?

No. We are not solicitors and we do not provide legal advice. We offer general legal information in plain English to help you understand the tribunal process.

4. Can you tell me if I will win my tribunal claim?

No. We cannot give legal advice or predict the outcome of a case. What we can do is explain the steps, deadlines, documents, evidence and typical processes to help you represent yourself confidently.

5. Can you help me fill in my ET1 form?

We can explain what each section is asking for and give examples of the type of information people usually include.
We cannot fill in the form for you or tell you what to write.

6. What is ACAS Early Conciliation?

It is the first step before most tribunal claims. ACAS tries to help you and your employer resolve the issue.
We can explain how it works, what the deadlines mean, and how to check your ACAS certificate dates.

7. How long do I have to bring a tribunal claim?

Most claims must be brought within three months minus one day from the date of the incident or dismissal.
ACAS Early Conciliation pauses the clock for a short time. We can help you understand how the deadline usually works.

8. Can you help me understand letters from the tribunal?
Yes. We can explain in plain English what it generally means and what usually happens next.

9. What kind of evidence do I need?

Common evidence includes emails, texts, messages, payslips, rotas, screenshots, CCTV or witness names.
We can help you understand how to lay it out, but we cannot tell you what evidence proves your claim.

10. Can you speak to my employer for me?
No. We cannot contact employers, ACAS, solicitors or the tribunal on your behalf.
We only provide information directly to you.
