Tribunal Time Limit & Deadline Calculator Tool

How to Use This Tool

How to Use the Employment Tribunal Time Limit & Deadline Calculator

1. Select your claim type
Choose the type of claim you are dealing with (for example, unfair dismissal, unpaid wages, discrimination, redundancy pay, etc). Different claims have different limitation periods, so selecting the correct type helps apply the correct rule.

2. Enter the key date for your claim
This is usually:
– Your dismissal date (for unfair or constructive dismissal)
– The date of the last underpayment or deduction (for wages/holiday claims)
– The date of the last incident in a series (for discrimination or harassment)
– The date your employment ended (for redundancy pay)
If you are unsure, enter the date you believe is most relevant.

3. If your issue happened many times, tick the series box
If the problem happened repeatedly (for example, ongoing underpayments or repeated harassment), tick “This is a series of incidents”.
Then enter the date of the last incident you can remember. The calculator will use this as your limitation starting point.

4. Add optional ACAS Early Conciliation dates
If you have already done ACAS Early Conciliation, enter:
– The ACAS start date (when ACAS received your EC request)
– The ACAS end date (the certificate date)
The calculator will add the ACAS pause to your limitation period.
If you leave these boxes empty, it will calculate the deadline without an ACAS extension.

5. Review the calculated deadlines
The calculator shows:
– The rule that applies to your claim type
– The event date used for the calculation
– Your base limitation deadline (without ACAS)
– Whether an ACAS extension was applied
– Your adjusted limitation deadline (with ACAS)
– How many days you have left from today

6. Read the summary message
At the bottom you will see a summary that explains whether:
– Your claim appears to be in time
– You are close to the deadline and should act urgently
– The deadline may have already passed
This summary is a simplified guide and cannot replace proper legal advice.

7. Print or save your results (optional)
Click “Print / Save as PDF” to keep a copy of your calculated deadline.
This can be useful when speaking to ACAS, solicitors, CAB or preparing your ET1 form.

8. Clear the calculator whenever needed
Click “Clear & reset” to remove all data and start again.
Your entries are saved in your browser automatically until you clear them.

Important
This calculator is only a guide. Employment Tribunal time limits are complex and can depend on detailed facts of your case. Always seek independent legal advice if you are close to any deadline or unsure which dates apply.

Employment Tribunal Time Limit & Deadline Calculator

This tool helps you estimate key limitation dates for Employment Tribunal claims in England & Wales. It is based on common rules (for example, “3 months less one day” for many claims) and lets you optionally include ACAS Early Conciliation dates. It is only a guide – always seek legal advice about your own deadlines.

1. Claim details
2. ACAS Early Conciliation (optional)

Before most Employment Tribunal claims, you must go through ACAS Early Conciliation. Time limits are “paused” during this period, but the rules are technical. This tool uses a simplified approach: it adds on the number of days between your ACAS start and end dates.

3. Estimated deadlines
Claim type
Event date used for calculation
Standard time limit from this date
Base limitation date (no ACAS pause)
ACAS extension applied?
Adjusted limitation date (with simple ACAS extension)

This calculator is a guide only. Employment Tribunal time limits are complex and there are exceptions, extensions and special rules. You should seek urgent legal advice if you are close to or past any deadline.

Important Disclaimer

This time limit calculator is provided for general information only for individuals dealing with employment disputes in England and Wales. It uses simplified assumptions about Employment Tribunal limitation periods, including typical time limits such as “3 months less one day” for many claims and “6 months” for some others.

The actual deadline for your claim may be different, for example because of how your effective date of termination is defined, because your claim is part of a continuing act, because of ACAS Early Conciliation rules, or because a tribunal decides to extend or refuse time limits. This tool does not take into account all of the facts of your case and cannot tell you definitively whether your claim is in time.

This tool does not provide legal advice, does not create a solicitor–client relationship, and must not be relied on as a substitute for advice from a qualified legal professional. You remain fully responsible for any decisions you make. You should always consider obtaining urgent independent legal advice about limitation dates.
